FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1)       Q. Can I sell anything on eBay – A. Most things, but of course  eBay does have limitations as do we, we cannot sell Fire Arms or weapons of any description, we do not sell offensive items, counterfeit items (knowingly), Alcohol, Certain Event tickets, certain adult items, drugs etc for an extensive list of prohibited items go to http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/items-ov.html

2)       Q. How soon do you pay me/us A.  Our systems is are set up to make payments at the end of every month on items that have been sold and posted and are then outside our 7 day refund period, generally this period is between 3 and 8 weeks the average being 6 weeks.

3)       Q. Do I get receipts for items left with you A. YES, we expect each item to be correctly listed and left with us and we expect both you and us to sign for it, this documentation is very important, not only is it your receipt, but it also enables us to list items in accordance with your instructions.

4)       Q. Where do you store my items A. your items will be stored in secure insured storage with CCTV and 24 hour security

5)       Q. What if my item sells do you charge me a fee and what happens to it A. If an item does not sell, we do not charge you anything, we have the option to relist the item should we so wish at our expense or we offer to the item back to you for your collection, if you do not wish the item back we give it to our chosen Charity (Cancer Research) or we dispose of it for you

6)       Q. When does your £5.00 minimum listing administration charge apply? A. When an item sells. Example if an item sells for between .99p and £5.00 we keep the whole amount over £5.00 we take the first £5.00 then 1/3rd of the remaining amount.

7)       Q. Why do you charge me/us 2% for a reserve price? A. Because this is what eBay charge us, in the event that the item sells this 2% is refunded. eBay have put this rule in otherwise to many people would set unrealistic reserve prices if this service was free. So only set a reserve when you are confident that an item will sell for at least this amount.

8)       Q. Your charges 1/3rd seems high  A. We do not think so, on average it would cost you approximately 10% in all the hidden fees to sell an item on eBay, then you have all the time listing, administration, answering questions and posting an item to be taken into account. From our side we do not think we charge enough.

9)       Q. What if an item is returned to you A. So long as you have been truthful in your description to us, i.e.: the items does work when you have said it does, we will relist free of charge and you will receive your payment less any commissions from us. If an item is broken in transit, YOU will still receive your payment as all our postings are insured we will then be responsible for making a claim with the relevant carrier.

10)   Q. What if an item is lost in the post A. Again, you will receive your money in full less any commissions/charges. We will make the relevant claim against the carrier we chose to dispatch it

11)  Q. Do I have to clean, repair or prepare my items for sale?  A. YES, we do not undertake any cleaning, repairs or other preparation of your items, except displaying for photographic purposes. If an item is given to us in dirty or non pristine condition, broken, damaged or any other way not in good order, we will have to mention this in the listing. So it is in your best interest to hand items to us in the best possible manner.

12)  Q.  Can you give an exact valuation A. NO, we are not professional appraisers, we can give an estimate based on similar items having been sold on eBay or through our own experience, however if you are in any doubt about the true value of an item, we strongly advise that you contact professional valuers appraiser. Even if we could give a valuation, this does not guarantee a sale price, again if you value your item highly you should consider setting a reserve price.

13) Q. My item is not receiving any bids can I withdraw it A. NO, once an item has been placed for sale on eBay you and we have entered into a legally binding contract, so unless the item is lost, stolen or broken we cannot withdraw from the sale. You should remember that most of the bidding can take place in the final hours and often in the final last few minutes.

14) Q. I have noticed that you have not listed my item correctly, can you change or withdraw and then relist. A. YES in exceptional circumstances and during certain times during the listing, we can if the item is significantly as described remove or change the particulars. In fact we encourage you to check all the items we list for you, so that we may amend or remove as required, your input is vitally important to us, we are your assistants, and we are working for you not the other way round.

15) Q. Oh that’s good as you are selling the item I have no responsibility. A. FALSE – We are working as your Trading Assistants as agents, you retain full responsibility for the item/s until a satisfactory sale has been fully completed, including the descriptions and valuations that you do or do not provide us with, providing false information will result in an item being returned and you will be responsible for all costs incurred by us.

16) Q. Can I bid for my own item or can you bid for me so that we can push the price up (phishing) A. NO upon handing your items to us for sale you agree to abide by the rules of eBay and Poppletons, bidding on your own items is strictly forbidden, and if you or any other party would be to do so, you would be breaking your contract, and if you were to win your own item, you would have to pay for it and receive it back. eBay also takes this metter very seriously for further information go to http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/index.html

17) Q. My item has a start price of just .99p do I have to sell at that price A.) YES, unless you set a reserve price which starts at £50.00 you enter into a contract, as do we on your behalf to sell to the highest bidder. It is our policy to honour all bids high or low, so we will sell as agreed to the highest bidder. But if your item is of good quality and sought after this rarely happens, however this is eBay and you must be prepared for ups and downs.
